Divisionals

Divisionals are hosted by Mechanicsburg Swim Club at the Mechanicsburg Community pool.  It is an outdoor, 25 meter pool.

Divisionals is a meet that hosts 6 teams all at once.  Here’s how it works.

Each swimmer will get to pick 3 events of their choice to swim and prioritize them.  Coach Lu will either enter the swimmer in their choice of events or take them out of their third or even second choice and swim them in a relay or two.  She will only do this if she feels the relay has a chance at qualifying for  All-Stars or if there are enough swimmers with only two events chosen.

Once entered into the meet, swimmers will be ordered and placed in a heat according to the swimmer’s fastest time recorded at a CASL meet.  Slower heats will swim first.  Places are determined by time.  It is possible that a swimmer in a slower heat will place above swimmers in faster heats. This did not happen in duel meets due to the limitation of swimmers allowed to enter an event.

When you arrive spectators will need to pay an entrance fee  of $2 for patrons 10 and over. Swimmers will get in free as will registered volunteers.  Programs will be for sale for $3.00.

Our warm ups are scheduled from 7:15-7:45 am.  Warm-ups are very busy.  Each team is assigned only two lanes. Obviously the lanes  are crowded.  The goal for a swimmer during this time would be to get comfortable with the pool.  Swimmers should count their strokes for backstroke, attempt a few turns and starts (when allowed) and get a length or two of each of the strokes that he or she is swimming that day.

Over a loud-speaker system events and heats will be called to report to the staging area.  The staging area will have rows of chairs are lined up.  Each row represents a heat; each column will be a lane.  As the meet progresses swimmers will move up in their column until they are escorted by meet workers to the blocks.  Because heats are staged well in advance of the race it is possible for a swimmer to return from swimming their event and be immediately called to stage for their next event.  It can seem hectic.  The best thing a parent can do here is remain calm for their swimmer. Your energy plays a huge part in your swimmer’s energy.

At the end of the day when  Divisionals are over the results will get sent to the league.  The league will compile the times from the five Divisional meets and choose the 16 fastest swimmers for each individual event and the 8 fastest relays to swim at Sunday’s All-Stars.

A coach or board member will call those EPAC swimmers who qualified for All-Stars.  You may also check the CASL website at swimcasl.org for results sheets.
